Why Fathom Distribution?
The music industry, once considered a massive cash cow, is once again becoming an ‘art form’, a cottage industry made for and sustained by enthusiasts. The time of greed, albums of single hits with filler songs are now behind us. As mega-chain shops close down or diversify into other fields, independent retail once again has breathing space to continue selling music and culture they love through the power of community.
Though the music industry is currently being eviscerated, we believe there are individuals who believe in supporting artists who make music we enjoy and such people will always be around. These individuals appreciate the higher sound resolution a CD, vinyl record, or high-quality digital file can offer as well as cool packaging that enhances the connection between artist and fan. Packaging that can be shared with friends, properly archived, and appreciated by those who truly care about what s/he listens to in a context the artist creates. Fathom Distribution aims to connect listeners and artists by bringing international talent to Canada, and Canadian talent to the world. We also are looking for individuals and retailers interested in doing sustainable business at fair trade to the artist. Fathom Distribution aims to achieve this by subscribing to the philosophy of ‘stop selling and start helping’ in order to help music fans embark on her/his own ‘adventures in audio’.
