Gregory Taylor - Dua Belas $14.50

Gregory Taylor - Dua Belas $14.50

dua_belas’ title — Indonesian for “the twelve” — is a collection of live and studio work that constitutes varied interwoven vignettes that describe a new and different landscape altogether — a postcolonial steampunk orchestra of the Royal Courts whose graceful retinue of real/virtual/analog/digital synthesizers accompany a shadow play of appropriated tales that shimmer, grind, twist and morph in the humming air. File under ambient, deep listening.

K. Leimer - Degraded Certainties $14.50

K. Leimer - Degraded Certainties $14.50

Extensively manipulated audio files, layered elements combined from multiple versions of shared sources, edited, reshaped envelopes results in six pieces of minimalist / processed music. By arbitrarily ordering differing tone clusters at differing durations, then articulated by differing voices and degraded certainties that use signal reprocessing as the principal technique in determining timbre and form. Ranging in temper from the elegiac “hommage” to the steady-state “angoisse” and the referential “allotropy”, degraded certainties abandons drone and ambient by emphasizing fuller contrasts, shifts in character and a deeply detailed soundfield. With contributions from Gregory Taylor and Taylor Deupree. File under ambient, deep listening. File under: ambient, deep listening.

K. Leimer - The Useless Lesson $14.50

K. Leimer - The Useless Lesson $14.50

The Useless Lesson includes collaborations with Leo Abrahams, (solo artist and guitarist on Brian Eno’s Another Day on Earth) Dwight Ashley (Nepenthe artist) and phonographer Anode. The CD is comprised of structured and unstructured pieces juxtaposed to emphasize the importance of recognizing sound as music. The structured pieces are mostly for string trio and are traditional and surface-oriented, placing their emphasis on the interaction of separate voices, set in contrast with collaborative, steady-state and hybrid pieces which are heuristic, synthetic and primarily timbral. File under: ambient, deep listening.

Marc Barreca - Subterrane $14.50

Marc Barreca - Subterrane $14.50

Composed with layers of processed, chopped and looped sounds including field recordings; studio recordings of accordion and other acoustic and electronic instruments. Subterrane merges acoustic with electronic sensibilities into a singular music of timbral and textural sleight-of-hand. Source sounds include trains, subways, glass bottles, bamboo and bronze percussion instruments, rattles, and other folk instruments. For “Twilight Reprise” samples from his 1980 Palace of Lights album, Twilight, are recycled and reprocessed. Other pieces also include recycled slices from previous live and studio recordings that bear little resemblance to the sources. Mastered by Taylor Deupree. File under: Ambient, deep listening.
