Saxophonist Brodie West is a long-standing veteran of Toronto’s improvised music scene and is involved with numerous bands in his locality including The Legends of Jazz Piano, Disaster Area, Eucalyptus, and Drum Heller. Not to mention West is also a member of Goo! A Copenhagen, Denmark band where he plays alongside Simon Rosengren, Kevin Brow and Graig Earle. West’s work appears on recordings alongside many well-known and prestigious artists including Polmo Polpo, Broken Social Scene, The Ex, and Getatchew Mekuria. Lately, West engaged in a world-wide musical tour with the Ex and Getatchew Mekuria as well as a festival in the latter’s hometown in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Brodie and Han, features eleven smouldering improvised jazz sets recorded live in Toronto’s Gas Station with West on sax and Han Bennink on drums. Bennink is a long time improvised jazz legend who played with the likes of Eric Dolphy, Sonny Rollins and Dexter Gordon–his prestigious career brushed-upon in this Wikipedia entry.
